Romney Says He Won’t Cut Taxes on Rich, Will Keep Some Obamacare Provisions
Romney’s getting defensive on taxes, but he still won’t offer specific measures that he would take. Sweeping statements and generalizations got him this far only because of the anti-press bubble he keeps about him. That can’t last too much longer and it’s past time that reporters started hammering harder for details - voters need to know. The other question: will he close the loopholes that protect his offshore wealth?
Romney said that his proposed 20-percent tax cut for all would be paid for by eliminating loopholes and deductions from the highest earners. He said his plan would essentially cut taxes on the middle-class while keeping those for the richest Americans unchanged. As Holly Bailey writes on Yahoo! News, Romney “again declined to offer specifics on how exactly he would accomplish his goal of lowering taxes for other Americans while also balancing the budget.”
